February Blog Header

When I saw that FREE Box of Chocolate February Wallpaper Digital Download, well - I couldn't resist! And paired with the 2013 Quotable Calendar Template - it was a match made in Heaven or my version of it with my FAV Close to Cocoa color!

So, how about this for my new blog header for February?

Remember this post from Tuesday? The one with the FREE Digital Download?
Box of Chocolates February Wallpaper

Yup! That's the one! Close to Cocoa has been one of my favorite colors for a number of years. I must have had about five packages of retired Close to Cocoa Designer Series Paper (DSP) when Stampin'Up! retired it! Hey - always buy what you like, huh?  :)

I think I'm down to about one package left and it has been retired for a few years now... Am I the only one who buys her favorites and then holds them VERY close - not wanting to part with them because I know I can't get any more of it? Hope Stampin'Up! brings back the Close to Cocoa color in a cool, new DSP!

Express Card Class

Crafters -

What a busy day Saturday was! Grab a cup of coffee, tea, or your favorite beverage and enjoy this post - along with some pretty cards!

First, the Flower Fair Simply Scrappin' Kit Card Class was held Saturday morning. We even made a box for the cards so it can sit on a desk or bookcase and it will be SO EASY to just grab a card and go (and looks pretty too)! The next card class - February Card Class - will feature the Razzleberry Splash Simply Scrappin' Kit. I've added details on my Classes page. We will also be making a DIFFERENT box to go with this set! You will need to RSVP by February 9th so I can ensure I have enough supplies ordered!

Then while we were finishing the cards and taking orders, others began arriving for the Express Card Class in the afternoon.

It was so nice to meet some new friends. And it was nice to have old friends stop by too! A good time was had by all!

During the afternoon, we began with the Oh, Hello stamp set, using the Note Cards and Envelopes (SO EASY!) - even using markers. What a cute card, huh? And everyone made one - so much fun! All five of the 2012-2014 InColors are used on this one!
Oh Hello
using Note Cards and Envelopes
Quick and Easy!

And with a variation, still using the same colors, but a different stamp set - Thoughts and Prayers and the FREE Sale-a-bration set called Bloomin' Marvelous. Totally different look! Oh, and I had to a little bit o' bling on the flowers! Love my Basic Rhinestone Jewels!
Thoughts and Prayers

Who wouldn't love this gift set?
Change the sayings, add a ribbon to tie it together,
and you have a wonderful gift!

The new Paper Pumpkin kit subscriptions begin in March, and THIS was a big hit! Not only did I show the card that you can make with the kit.
Paper Pumpkin Card Kit

I also showed how we "changed up" the card, just a bit, to make it similar. We did this card on Friday evening at my downline meeting.
Paper Pumpkin Card kit
MODIFIED using different papers,
but sticking with the same color theme

And because there were a couple of NEW stampers here on Saturday, check out this idea using this GREAT kit!
Paper Pumpkin
Kept the same card design
Changed the colors and paper
and viola!

Seriously, the ideas always seem the hardest for me. LOVE that the idea is already given to me - I just have to change the colors! And it is delivered to my door each month! YEAH!!!! Thank you Stampin' Up! for thinking of this!

As I mentioned to the crafters during the Express Card Class, when these Paper Pumpkin kits start arriving, my customers will be invited to my home to put them together. We will also make one additional card (like the Wisteria card) so we have SEVERAL ideas to use with this new kit. **Update - This has now changed. (April 2014)

When you sign up for this monthly subscription kit, please choose me (Dawn Stock, Grove City, Ohio) as your demonstrator. The way I understand it, the demonstrator is not yet notified when you join. So when you sign up, jot me an email! Here are some of the FAQs about the whole Paper Pumpkin too!

I have scheduled the FOURTH SATURDAY of each month for my Paper Pumpkin Party! We will meet from 8a-9a and you will need to bring your Paper Pumpkin kit, along with your Crafter's Kit items with you. Once you sign up, I'll send you the particulars! I've also added a page link about Paper Pumpkin. You can see the dates and some information here.  **Update - This has now changed. (April 2014) (**UPDATE: DATE CHANGE FOR MARCH DUE TO EASTER WEEKEND - March's date has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 6th, from 8a-9a)

We finished Saturday afternoon with one other demonstration and SEVERAL drawings. Everyone left with a catalog, some cards, and some new friendships!

Hope you have enjoyed viewing the fun we had on Saturday afternoon. If YOU would like to schedule YOUR workshop, have this kind of fun, AND earn FREE Sale-a-bration items, contact me. I'd LOVE to be your demonstrator!

Secret Garden

Crafters -

All I can say is "Whew!" Whatever has been going around has been a doozy here!! (So thankful my other job has benefits!)

We plan the Latte Joy Stampers downline meetings for once a quarter (our next meeting is in April - 90 days - and it seems to go so fast!). My card for my shoebox swap tonight was ready to go well in advance - thank goodness too!

Charlene, Nina, Sandie, and I met this evening for fun and crafting. We did miss Jeannette and Gabby. But family ALWAYS comes first! Hopefully we will catch up with them in April!

I'll be posting the cards we made - but it won't be until later this weekend. In the meantime, here's the card I made for the Shoebox Swap. It uses one of my FAVORITE new stamp sets - Secret Garden AND the Secret Garden Framelits, along with the Perfectly Penned stamp set!
Secret Garden meets Perfectly Penned

I LOVE the Vintage Faceted Designer Buttons, and we tied a little bow using the Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine (**HINT - put just a smidge of the SNAIL to hold the flowers/button together and then mark the right place with the paper-piercing tool. Made the tapestry needle MUCH easier to use and we didn't have to worry about the button moving! Easy Peasy, Lemon Squeezy!) And those new Large Rhinestones REALLY set the smaller flower, don't you think?

Did you recognize some of the other colors, too? Cherry Cobbler, Gumball Green, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, the old-standby Very Vanilla, and my all-time FAVORITE Designer Series Paper - Be of Good Cheer. It is a WONDERFUL Christmas paper, but it doesn't look at all Christmas-y to me on this card.

It was amazing to me how we each used the exact same pieces and parts, and yet our cards each looked just a bit different. Some used a different saying, others doubled the baker's twine so that it was a shorter, fuller bow instead of one with the long tails. Some used Stampin' Dimensionals to give that added 3-D look! They all just looked so nice and were really quite easy to make!

OH - I almost forgot! Charlene and Nina both promoted to Senior Associate too! It is always so great to see your friends, especially when they are your downline, do so well. CONGRATULATIONS CHARLENE AND NINA!

Hope you enjoy the card and please check back. I'll be posting more (now that I'm up and moving around again!).

Blog Candy Winner!

Remember this post on Saturday? Well, thank you so much to those of you who came to my blog and left a comment between that posting and Monday evening.

I had to wait for the boy to come home from school today so we could pull the name out of the bag, and ...

So thanks so much playing along! This is the first time I've done this and it was a LOT of fun (my helper enjoyed it as well!). I may have to do this again. What do you think?

So Bonnie from Virginia - please email me with your snail mail address and I'll get this out to you!

Hope you enjoy the bag - I had a LOT of fun making it!

Blog Candy!

Crafters-

How about some
BLOG CANDY?!

Someone told me some information about blogging the other day that I didn't know. And it was a very valuable life lesson too... After receiving that little blogging lesson from that person the other day, I thought.... hmmmm.... maybe I'll try that.

So, how about some
BLOG CANDY?!

I had posted on the Social Media class posting, asking if there were any techniques that anyone was interested in learning - so that I could add to my video library on YouTube.

Remember the Giftables class I offered in December? (You'll want to scroll to the bottom of the classes link to see the pictures.)

Well, I made a couple extras of the bag! (They made GREAT Christmas gifts!)

If you leave me a comment between now and Monday, January 21st, 2013, I'll place your name into a drawing to receive the rag-bag from this class. (Limited to U.S. addresses only)
Rag Bag from December Giftables Class

I'll post your name on Tuesday, January 22nd. You'll need to send me your snail mail address so I can send this to you.

I have several of these bags in different sizes. I use them for my knitting, to take my lunch back and forth to my "regular" job, and I even carry catalogs around in them!

Using the Scallop Square Clear Die, I made numerous bags a couple of years ago as Christmas gifts for my downline. That posting was here. And yes, those bags were made before we sold fabric.

After I show the bag, many people ask me - where'd you get that die? You'd be surprised how hidden it seems to be in the catalog. It is a Stampin'Up! EXCLUSIVE - you can only get it from Stampin'Up! And with Sale-a-Bration beginning on Tuesday, January 22nd - well - NOW is a GREAT time to order yours!

Did you notice the fabric on the bag that I'm giving away? The Deck the Halls fabric is available for 99 CENTS! Keep in mind - it is on the Clearance Rack, so once it is gone, it is gone! (They started with FOUR Clearance Fabrics and there are only TWO designs left - DON'T DELAY!)

And the quality of the fabric is wonderful. During the Giftables class in December, Charlene our resident quilter attended the class and she liked the fabric. I consider her to be an expert in fabric! (smile)

For those of you who don't know... I am not a seamstress. The only way I know how to make these bags is because my friend and former downline member Geneva helped me just about every step of the way when I made them a few years ago!

So, please - choose one of my postings and leave me a comment! (**NOTE: Comments are moderated, so it may take a bit for it to show up on the blog.)

Leadership Class - Blueprint for Success

I hope you have been enjoying these updates today on the various Leadership classes I received last week. This is the final "Breakout" class update.

During Leadership 2013, I was able to take a class called "Creating Your Blueprint for Success" that was offered by Brandi Barnard and Meg Daves.

During the Creating Your Blueprint for Success class, Brandi Barnard (or maybe it was Meg Daves) mentioned that Stampin'Up! was going to offer a "Cost Calculator" in excel for the demonstrators. It would be available AFTER Leadership 2013. Now I check online almost EVERY DAY (if not multiple times throughout the day!) on the Stampin'Up! website and it was there as of yesterday. Not sure if they posted it before, but I specifically went looking for it yesterday. SU! has made it very easy for those of us (that would be me!) so we can keep an accurate cost analysis on our fees.

Brandi also mentioned that we could "repurpose" our projects and designs. Now, what does that mean, you might ask? What that means is once you have a template, there is not a need to reinvent the wheel. While yes, you can just swap out one color for another like I did a few years ago for this hostess set (has it really been almost FOUR years?!). The blog posting is here.
Same Design / Different Colors

Or my 2012 Chattanooga Regional Swap cards using Serene Silhouettes and a few other items. :)  Did you notice that I used ALL of the new 2012-2014 InColors - papers, markers, and ribbons. The blog posting is here.
Serene Silhouettes

It also means that you can keep the same design and use different colors and/or stamps with it to make it look different - even though you know it is basically the same template! I did that here using the Reason to Smile stamp set by changing it using the Blooming With Kindness stamp set. I kept the same colors, but the card looks different. That blog posting is here.
Blooming With Kindness on the left
Reason to Smile is on the right
(Psst! Did you notice? The Reason to Smile stamp set is on the Clearance Rack. When it is gone, it is gone!)

Or with the Papillion Potpourri stamp set. This blog posting is here.

Papillion Potpourri

Meg Daves also spoke with us about determining our goals for our business. She stressed the importance of talking! She gave a GREAT example of her earning the incentive trip and MEANING to register but never quite getting around to it. Thankfully a wonderful person from Stampin'Up! called her and reminded here so she could get registered! Otherwise she would have missed the deadline and the trip!

GREAT ideas all around, huh? Thanks so much for looking through all of them! Let me know what YOU have done with these ideas.

Do you like my ideas? Leave me a comment and let me know! If you do like my ideas and you are looking for a demonstrator, I'd LOVE to be your demo. Let me know and we can talk -  catalog in hand!  :)

Leadership Class - Meet New People

On Saturday early afternoon of Leadership 2013, I was able to attend the "Meet New People, Find New Faces" class facilitated by Shannon West. You may remember Shannon from my posting about the 2012 Chattanooga Regional. Here's the picture I took that day:
Dawn Stock (red shirt) and Shannon West on the right

One of the items she shared was to make the projects easily duplicatable. She showed a picture of the Swallowtail butterfly that she did, although I cannot remember the colors used (Steph asked me yesterday!) But here's what she did with hers! (When I next see you, ask me about how Shannon cleans her stamps while stamping! You thought I was bad wiping them on my black slacks during classes - I ain't got nuttin' on the lovely Shannon!)

I had located a pretty, oval frame that was very ornate and thought I'd use it for my "My Why" statement, but I may have to seriously reconsider! My Swallowtail butterfly is due to arrive next week, hmmm....

SO, here is an easily duplicatable project using My Little Valentine and it is only available through MONDAY, January 21st! It ends when Sale-a-Bration begins! Don't delay and miss getting this limited-time-available, exclusive four-piece stamp set. And these cards took VERY little time! I did them at the kitchen table while talking with my mom!

If you want to get this set (a STEAL at  $9.95), you need to order it now - PLUS don't forget! You also receive the Sealed With Love Simply Sent Kit too (a $7.95 value). Here's my blog posting about the items I used too! This is such a cute little set that Stampin'Up! is offering for just a short time! Enjoy!

Leadership Class - Social Media

There were a number of classes offered this year for Leadership 2013. I wish I could have taken them all, but unfortunately Hermoine's Time Turner was not available to me.

BUT one of the classes that I WAS able to take was the "Ramping Up Your Social Media Presence" and it was facilitated by Andrea Withers. You may remember Andrea from my posting about Convention 2011 AND the 2012 Chattanooga Regional. Well, she was on stage at this presentation and did a FAN-TAB-ULOUS job! I wasn't able to get her attention until Saturday evening at the Sale-a-Bration Celebration, she was just WAY too busy! Of course, she is one of those rare people who remember names and faces! (It may have something to do with her youth, but I suspect it is actually HER!) When I snuck over and saw her, she gave me the biggest hug. Isn't she just the sweetest person?! This picture was from the Chattanooga Regional.
Me (red shirt on left) and Andrea Withers (red sweater on right)

Well, during the Leadership 2013 class of Ramping Up Your Social Media Presence, I learned a LOT from Andrea Withers, Diane Dimich, Catherine Pooler, and Becky Roberts (had to pull out the agenda to make sure I got everyone's name right!).

Now, I know, I know, I know... We all know what we need to do, but sometimes trying to fit everything in - well, it just doesn't happen so well! One of the points mentioned was to offer videos and although I have a few ideas, what type of video information would you like to see me offer? I did that one small video on the Simply Sent App here and that seemed well received.
Simply Sent App
See my video on how to use it

And I'd like to do another crafting video. Is there a technique you'd like to see? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Leadership Class - Managers' Reception

WOW! Seriously, you ever get so speechless with something right in front of you that you can say nothing but "WOW!"?

As many of you know, I was a demonstrator for a number of years. I then took at six-month break (Stampin'Up!'s rules, not mine). Well, because of that time off, I've had to rebuild my business, so I am always looking for tips!

During Leadership 2013, they offered a class the first afternoon/evening BEFORE Leadership 2013 actually started. I signed up for that class RIGHT AWAY! It was called "How to Get to Managers' Reception Next Year" and was facilitated by Brian Pilling. Brian's a bit of a character...

When you next see me, ask me about the Friday Night General Session he participated in called "Stamping Under the Stars." We just refer to it as a Pajama Party. Boys aren't usually allowed at these things... but he was there in his Mickey Mouse t-shirt, suitcase, and he even had his pillow! He did some internet research for the Pajama Party, with his lovely wife's permission I am sure! Some of his information was inaccurate, but he tried! It was too stinkin' cute!
Brian Pilling
Demonstrator Training Manager

I digress. During the Managers' Reception class, because we signed up in advance, the lovely people at Stampin'Up! had our personalized financial report in an envelope for us to use during the class. Brian went over the report to let us each know how we could improve our businesses so that we can promote to Manager in order to attend the Managers' Reception Next Year. I learned a LOT!

At Leadership 2013, Managers' Reception was held at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando. Did I mention I have ALL of the movies AND have attended SEVERAL midnight showings the night that the movies have opened? Our son even has the hardback SET of books and it has been his favorite since at least the third grade! But since I wasn't a manager, I was unable to attend.   :(    (sniff, sniff, blow nose)

Hopefully, some of the tips I learned during the Managers' Reception class will come in handy. I met a wonderful lady during the class who is my Accountability Partner. I look forward to corresponding with Karen throughout the next year!

It has just been a whirlwind since I came home from Leadership! WHEW!! I placed my supply order for the Card Class next week using the Flower Fair Simply Scrappin' Kit! New Card Kit Subscription - My Paper Pumpkin!

Yes, that is right! During General Session today, the fabulous Bonnie Thurber, who CAN read minds gave us some fabulous news!

Go to MyPaperPumpkin.com and come right back here. WOW HUH????

Doesn't this sound just great? You can choose between either a monthly card kit subscription OR you can try it for one month free. Did I mention that the monthly subscription will include shipping?! I think I see a monthly class for my customers!

And because Stampin'Up! is such a fabulous company - and here is where I can tell you about Bonnie's mind-reading abilities. You see, there weren't any make-and-takes is year. Bonnie said she told the company that we would be alright with NOT doing make-and-takes because Stampin'Up! Is giving all Leadership attendees a FREE 'Hey There Try It Kit' and you can see parts of the kit they gave us here. Now, I do have to be honest here. We received a slightly different kit because the new kits aren't ready until March.

If you are new to stamping or trying to build your supplies, this is a GREAT way to begin! It comes with a stampin'spot, envelopes AND the glass block you will need to stamp the cards with!

AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Can you hear my scream from here?

So, are you interested in a class with this? Stampin'Up! is even going to let us do this as a cash-and-carry item too! Subscribe to my blog and receive the updates. This is not available until March - so check your calendar! I'll blog more later. Getting ready for the Pajama Party tonight back at the Convention Center. Yup! With 1,499 of my closest friends! I'll post pictures later...

This is so much fun!

So Much Fun in Orlando!

But is it HOT! Guess you can tell I don't live in this state, huh? My melting gives me away every time!

Anyway... I saw my friend Gwen yesterday at the meet-and-greet. She is still just as tall, beautiful, and just as nice as she always is. LOVE HER! When I reconnected with her in the room, she had already found two other new friends and we were gabbing and sharing with them.

In my other class later that day with Brian Pilling, I was able to sit with four ladies I just met. And one of them, the talented Kathleen Innes, is my new accountability partner! Can't wait to talk with her monthly to talk about our Stampin'Up! businesses!

Steph arrived safe and sound - isn't it wonderful to share this great company and have nice friends to share it with too?

Ok, we received our "Oh Hello" stamp set and a really pretty silver pen and pin! I took a picture - I'll see if I can get that uploaded and post it here (You have to tilt your head to the side - I'll figure out this whole iPad thing someday...).

Looking forward to classes today and I'll blog more later.

Orlando!

Crafters -

I'm in Orlando for the Stampin'Up! Leadership! My friend and former downline member, Stephanie, is due in tomorrow. Even though we are not in the same downline anymore, I'm so thankful that we are and have always been friends first! And did I mention that we are roomies again too?! The only thing, actually a person, missing from this Stampin'Up! event is our friend Geneva. The three of us used to travel and room together at these events.

BUT I have already placed the Good & Plenty box on Steph's pillow - sshhhh! Don't tell her - she'll be surprised when she arrives tomorrow. We always do Good & Plentys at our events! ;)

Hope you are subscribing to my blog postings so you can receive the Leadership postings I make while I'm here.

I'm also hoping I get to see some of my SU! friends here in Florida too! I already met two new friends at the airport. You see, there is not a bag provided this year. Well, Stampin'Up! told us to bring a bag from a previous event. I brought the bag I received from my first Convention (I think it was the 20th anniversary for Stampin'Up!). One of the ladies came over to me and we began talking about our bags and Stampin'Up! Leaderships and Conventions. You see - never met a stranger while at a stamping event!

And I hope I get to see my friend Gwen. She's the lovely lady who transferred her Leadership ticket to me a couple of years ago.

When I was at the Chattanooga regional in September, I also saw Andrea Withers from SU!'s home office. She said she was going to be at Leadership so maybe I'll see her too!

Check back tomorrow for an update!
